Forum Reporting System

ForumsPro has a reporting system, and there are various phpBB hacks, so no shortage of ideas on how it should work, initially:
  • report a post or topic
  • reporters on a selected group basis i.e. users, mods, admins.
  • report summary available to moderators and admins
  • moderators recommendation on action
  • links for actions like suspension, removing forum posting privileges, etc

Needed now that we have the ability to remove forum posting privileges on a user/forum basis.

(such lost privileges are post, reply, edit, delete, vote, create polls, attach and download files)

Clearly this system has significant potential for abuse so I think it is important to limit the number of 'reports' that a single user can submit (5 every hour? - admin settting?). Forcing them to write some text about why they think action needs to be taken on the post/thread would also make it easier to filter out genuine reports. The report should also contain a section where the reporter states what action they'd like to be taken (delete, move, etc)

Once a thread or post has been reported it should be available to those with admin/moderator functions on a particular board to allow action to be taken. A further nice touch would be automated notification to the original reporter (by PM?) of what happened. Perhaps all users would have a section where they could see the status of reports they have made?

Hope that makes sense?

Yep, all makes sense. Even 5 an hour could be rather disastrous, so the rate would be selectable, but I would suggest no limit for moderators and admin(s) since they may well be doing things in batches to optimize their time.

A reporting system has no bearing on forum load, so all things are possible, within reason Laughing

Sorry Diz, I meant now that I have it implemented, just not released yet.
e.g. view here and try posting.

However it's a blanket removal - individual authorizations are not selectable as that would prove quite intensive on a larger forum.

I've addressed this in the other topic - short answer is "Yes" i.e. it swings both ways.
