Editorial Review:
COLLEGE ROAD TRIP stars Martin Lawrence as Chicago cop James Porter, an overprotective father who wants to keep his college-bound daughter, Melanie (Raven-Symone), close to home. When the smart, assertive Melanie declares her intention to attend Georgetown instead of Northwestern, James insistently sets out with her on a cross-country car journey to Washington D.C., hoping to dissuade her along the way. En route, of course, plenty of hijinks ensue, including scenarios involving a precocious pig and, oddly enough, Donny Osmond, who turns up as an eeriely cheery dad also on a college-touring campaign.

Summary: Cute Family Movie
Comment: The kids really like this, cause of the slapstick. Interesting story about an overprotective dad and how he learns to let go of his firstborn and let her go to the college she wants. It would have been more fun for me if they were able to play up the "Three Little Pigs" aspect a bit more that they set up in the beginning of the film. The part of Don Osmond and also his family is so funny -- he just completely upstages Martin Lawrence.

Summary: Family Fun
Comment: Hilarious journey of one possessive father letting go off his beloved daughter. The things people go through to show how much they care. Dad is both endearing and nuts all at once and the family pet fits right in the equation.

Summary: "Classic" Disney
Comment: Having grown up on Disney films from the '60s and '70s, it's hard to compare the slapstick, G-rated comedies of the time to Disney's recent PG ventures of the '90s and beyond. However, "College Road Trip" feels like it was made all those years ago... cellphones aside. Yes, the plot is cliched, but that was the way it was in those great classics as well. It even has a musical number half-way through. Donny Osmond (and to some extent, Lucas Grabeel) steal the show with his quirky character, and Raven and Martin Lawrence are excellent playing off of each other as a daughter-father duo.

If you're a fan of great Disney comedies, this movie will not disappoint. This is one film where you won't have to worry about it being appropriate for any age group: it's pure G-rated fun full of laughs and just a good time.
