Customer Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: More style than substance...rated Meh Comment: i had a Lycosa which recently dies, and like the back-lite keys feature. I went looking for another keyboard with this feature that was as comfortable to type on or better. Never buy a keyboard without typing on it at a store, even if you don't buy it from that store.
The G-15 has a great LCD screen which you'll hardly ever look at for any of the information that can be displayed out of the box or with most mods I ever checked out. The back lighting is not too shabby, and the key "etching" appears to be done from the back so your letters won't turn into blobs of light after use like the Lycosa.
My main concern is the key action and how odd the column of "game keys" on the left are. I keep hitting them thinking that I'm striking the tab, caps or control keys. It almost seems that the main keys were made really small so that the foot print of the whole thing wouldn't get too wide while still adding this row of extra keys that can be used for just about anything.
I like notebook style keyboards and type much better on them so Im gong to be looking elsewhere...but Logitech should be happy to hear that I'll probably buy the new Ultrathin which types really nice and despite a reviewer discussing key lock, at the speed I type, which I think is pretty fast, I haven't experienced on any keyboard, including the Ultra thin that I test drove.
Bottom line...this could probably be a great gaming keyboard, but gamers don't look down at their screen, they're too busy dodging stuff on the screen! My design recommendation is to ditch the number pad, widen the keys and "uncramp" the layout...and you can afford to make it a little bit wider. Also, I shouldn't have to work so hard at the keys to type.
Product recommendation...for gamers, check out what Razor has to offer, leave this on the shelf. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Gaming Keyboard, but the Older Version was Better Comment: Since owning the older G15 gaming keyboard (version 1) for quite some time now, I would rate this newer G15 lower, as it has much less programmable macro keys and the color scheme is not as appealing as the older v.1. All the functions are the same, but much less of them. If you can get a hold of the version 1, the G15 with blue backlight keys, then consider yourself in luck as logitech as long discontinued them. Customer Rating: Summary: Huge dissapointment Comment: I bought this keyboard for my brother as a Christmas gift. We found out after plugging it in that the W A S and D keys did not work properly. He would have to push it 4-5 times before the letters would type, which is strange considering its a gaming keyboard and WASD are important gaming keys.
So I returned it to Amazon and received another one, and the new one was wobbly! The plastic arm rest that came with it was not level and so the entire keyboard was unstable. I was very unhappy with this product, for the price that it costs I would except much better quality, and all in all I was very dissatisfied. Customer Rating: Summary: G15 Feedback Comment: Pros: Full featured gameing keyboard, included software is functional and very configurable. The two USB ports are a welcome addition, as is backlighting of the board. Layout of keyboard is comfortable and I especially like the LCD display which supports additional downloadable views, such as internet bandwidth activity. A sturdy well made unit.
Cons: Backlight for keyboard has two brightness settings, could use a third higher intensitiy setting. Most keys are not evenly illuminated, with upper part of the key character (about 20% of the upper half) not benefiting from the the backlight intensitiy. Customer Rating: Summary: Change for the worse? Comment: I keep coming across this product version as I shop for gamepads and mice. I keep looking at it and thinking, "What the heck did they do?" so I thought I better say something. For me and my WoW gaming the best thing about the OLDER version was the three columns of programmable keys along the left hand side. I didn't think they were enough but now they've cut them back to one column? What the heck?!
The flashy window feature I've always found more gimmicky than useful. The one place I kind of like it is while playing WoW and talking on Vent, it lets you see who is actually talking. But other than that, its just a bell and whistle, eye candy kind of thing.
