The guiro produces a ratchet-like sound from parallel ridges cut in one side when played by rubbing a wooden stick (included) across the ridges. It is designed with finger and thumb holes in the middle and is hollow on one end for sound projection. This percussion instrument is commonly used in Latin-American music. Painted with colors of the Mexican flag.
