Editorial Review:
Sonic the Hedgehog leads a group of freedom fighters bent on restoring their planet s beauty and freeing its citizens from the tyranny of the evil Dr. Robotnik. The fusion of powerful storylines, witty banter and a dark atmosphere made Sonic The Hedgehog, dubbed SatAM by its legions of fans, a favorite among youngsters and teens when it premiered on ABC in 1993. Inspired by the phenomenon that took the gaming world by storm, Sonic The Hedgehog likewise broke through the barriers of what was expected of a Saturday morning cartoon.
Now all 26 episodes are available in this action-packed collectors box set!

Summary: A nostalgic and enjoyable experience.
Comment: I'd like to clear something up: Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (AoSTH) were conceived and aired simultaneously. At the end of the second season of SatAM, it was scheduled for a 3rd season, but cancelled in favor of AoSTH.

Though the humor in the show isn't that of a top-rated comedian, it has a childish charm that has the ability to produce a chuckle or two, if only for its lack of coherence. Not only that, but for those who have seen the series before, this DVD will arouse a feeling of nostalgia.

If you loved SatAM, which I did very much, you'll love this one just the same for its nostalgic and simplistic, childish charm.

Summary: Worst of all four Sonic cartoons
Comment: For those of you who don't know, there have thus far been no less than four Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons: Sonic the Hedgehog, also known as SatAM; the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, also known as AoSTH; Sonic Underground; and Sonic X. I'm familiar with all four of them, as well as the histories behind them, so trust me when I say that this is the worst of all four. It was originally slated to be THE Sonic cartoon, but it sucked so badly that some of the Powers That Be decided to reject it and create something better, which eventually became SatAM. The Sonic comic books at the time started out being much like AoSTH, but eventually turned toward the more dramatic, intelligent, character-driven storytelling of SatAM. Years later, when Sonic Underground was being made, the Powers That Be also recognized the infinite superiority of SatAM over AoSTH, and accordingly made Underground more like the former than like the latter. As a result, it ended up being second best (arguably first, even) of the four. Sonic X was little more than an English-dubbed version of a Japanese show, the sole purpose of which was to serve as a half-hour advertisement for the Sonic games for the Dreamcast; although it was quite boring and completely devoid of substance, it was not as excruciatingly painful to watch as AoSTH, it remained popular enough to last a half-dozen seasons, and it even paid token tribute to characters like Knuckles and Amy, placing it (in my opinion) third out of four, though you might find AoSTH more entertaining than Sonic X if you are amused by really bad attempts at humor.

Network executives, comic book-writers, and fans agree: SatAM and Underground are better than AoSTH.

Summary: First of a possible 3 sets?!
Comment: I love this series and have been patiently awaiting a release on DVD; however, I was shocked when I finally received it and found it wasn't the complete series. It's not even numbered volume 1 or anything. It was only by reading reviews that I realized that this is the first of a possible three volume series and Shout Factory isn't planning on releasing the other two volumes unless they get good sales from this first one. Bah. Way to drive away the customers, Shout Factory!

The series deserves a five-star rating, hands down. Shout Factory's stinginess on releasing the whole series may kill their sales and thus provoke them to not release the other two volumes. Hard-core fans might have to stick to downloading the rare, low-quality, grainy episodes to get their "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" fix. So overall rating: three stars. Release the rest of the series, Shout Factory!

Summary: The Greatest Sonic The Hedgehog DVD
Comment: This is the greatest DVD that features the Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog. It has all of the episodes of the series, and they are all entertaining. I used to have two of these episodes on tape, and now I can see them again after many years. This item is a great gift for an avid Sonic fan, or for someone who liked the show.

Summary: As good as a Chili Dog
Comment: This is the show I loved to come home to after school. Time hasn't hurt it too bad at all, and definately recommend it to fans.
