Editorial Review:
This product is called "auto" because it gets its power from your vehicle's 12 Volt accessory outlet. And it is called "universal" because it works with any portable audio device that has a standard 1/8" headphone jack (including CDs, MP3s, cassettes, and yes, even iPod). Additionally, the "Plus" in this iTrip model is the ability to charge your player by means of a built-in USB port. Plug in your player's USB charge/sync cable, and you get to listen to your tunes while you're traveling, and arrive with a fully-charged player.

Customer Rating: Summary: Static-fest, but better than radio Comment: The cd player in my car stopped working, so I bought this item so that I could listen to music in my car with my Phillips GoGear 8GB MP3 player. I've had some problems with it, as finding a good station to tune it into is hard. The music isn't as clear as it could be due to static. To minimize static, I have to hang the iTrip over my rear view mirror and my MP3 player dangles from the wire (which could possibly damage the wire or the headphone port on my MP3 player). It still gets a bit of static even when I do that. If I just place it on the passenger seat, the static will get worse. I've tried tuning it through many radio stations and I still have this problem.
I mainly got this particular product because my girlfriend has one and it works great for her. She did say that she had the same problem as me for the first month or so, but then it went away. I'm not sure what the "magic touch" is, but unless you want to struggle with static, I'd suggest installing a CD/MP3 player into your vehicle rather than paying for this item. Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product Comment: Easy to set up and to use. Worked very well on a cross country trip as well as at home in the District of Columbia. It kept my iPhone (old version, not 3G) charged and the music playing. Just remember to keep the volume on your iPhone down (around 50%) and adjust the volume to your liking on the car's radio. Customer Rating: Summary: Not worth the price Comment: I was very disappointed when I plugged in the transmitter and only heard the music for a few minutes before I had to start scanning for stations. Living in a city poses problems- there are few open stations to tune into. I tried setting it to international stations as another reviewer suggested, but that did not help. Maybe if I lived in a rural area, I might have been able to tune in. But I cannot imagine having to keep changing channels when driving long distances. I returned the transmitter and bought a $6 adapter to plug into my car's stereo system. Customer Rating: Summary: Use with Sansa Clip. Best Transmitter/Charger out there!!(Switch to International 87.7) Comment: This thing works wonderfully! The person who suggested switching to International mode by holding down the preset button until the US starts blinking and then switching to INTL mode with the plus button is absolutely correct! Once you can move below the US frequency range to 87.7, you get crystal clear reception.
I use this with my Sansa Clip in the car and am very pleased with both the transmitting and the charging.
Awesome buy!!! Highly recommend! Customer Rating: Summary: not for me Comment: I won't dog it completely, but I will say that even out in the middle of the desert I still get static. So with that said would anyone like to buy one from me. haha. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't buy it, so I hope that helps you.
