Editorial Review:
The Zyliss easy slice 2 folding mandoline is designed for quick and easy slicing of vegetables and fruit. It's innovative folding design takes up much less space in kitchen cabinets. This one-of-a-kind mandoline is outfitted with a serrated blade and adjusts to offer four slicing thicknesses, 1mm, 2.5mm, 4mm and 6mm. The easy-to-use dial makes alternating between slicking thicknesses a breeze, no more confusing blade inserts to remove or replace.

Summary: Gets the job done with a bit of effort
Comment: This is a decient product. It is very easy to clean and has a wide veriety of thickness settings. It is also deciently sturdy, though it gives a little under pressure.

It is a little slippery to work with though, as my biggest complaint. It takes a bit of force to push something through. I wish the hand grip was spring loaded though, because once an item your slicing gets smaller, it tends to take a little work to get it to slice further.

Over all it is not bad, definately worth it for the price. Folds up nice and neat for storage.

Summary: Great Device, but watch your fingers
Comment: I read all the reviews here and I want to weigh in too.

This is my first Mandoline. I saw a chef on the Food Network slicing potatoes into rounds that were so thin. She made healthful (olive oil, sea salt and cracked black pepper) potato chips by baking them on cookie sheet. My weakness is chips, so I bought it for that reason alone.

Seriously, I like the tool for slicing other fruits and vegatables too. It is easy to use and clean, but be careful. It also take us almost no space in your drawer, and it comes with a blade guard for storage. I was tempted not to use the "holder" when I got towards the end of the potato or tomato. My wife stopped me before I went to use my hand.

My one beef was the box said an instructional DVD was included in the box. It wasn't. But, the Zyliss website has the video. So I watched it before using it. I strongly recommend that.

I plan on using this to improve presentation of my salads. I'm not going to nitpick over the pros and cons of the julienne blade. If you want really fancy shapes, buy a different tool. This is a meat and potatoes mandoline that does its job very well. It's worth the money at $30, although I found mine at a Home Goods for $20.

Summary: Zysliss Mandoline Slicer
Comment: I bought this mandoline because I thought that it would help me with my food preperation. The only thing it's really good for are onions. I would have liked the julliene option to work, but unfortunately the end product is not what it's suppossed to be. The mandoline is at its' best when it's folded up in a drawer, it doesn't take much space and there are no blades to store. However, it's not so simple to fold or re-fold. I don't reccommend this product.

Summary: Not only does it cut vegetables, but meat too!
Comment: This goes not only for this model, but all similar products. The vegetable holder does not work well for all vegetables, such as carrots and bell peppers. So you may be tempted to go free-hand mode. If so, you do not want to be distracted. I was and it cost me a trip to the emergence room, 10 stitches to sew the end of my thumb back on. It went right through it and left it sitting on the cutting board. OUCH!

I see that others have had the same misfortune. I should add that I had it set on #4, which translates to about 3/16 to 1/4 inch slices. That's how much of my thumb was removed. A few days ago, I wanted to slice something with it, but decided not to - no nerve. I will probably discard it - after removing the blade.

Summary: Slicin', dicin' good fun!
Comment: I have a Benriner mandoline and thought it fairly useful but it can't hold a candle to this Zyliss! I LOVE that there is no need to change blades to obtain different cuts, and it's very easy to turn the dial to get varying thicknesses in slicing. Its pop-out stand is steady and I love the clever way you can position this over a bowl to slice right into the serving container.

I use it probably 6 to 8 times a week for various items - it slices fresh tomatoes thick or thin, makes short work of slicing an onion, and I make all varieties of "fries" with the julienne setting - great for zucchini, crookneck, pumpkin, butternut, sweet potato or any other veggie you care to make fries from - I simply cut, toss with a little olive oil, place on a foil-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with a little salt, then pop into a preheated 450* oven til browning. Alternatively, you can also deep-fry any of the above.

I like that the slicer folds and stores easily - after I wash it, I simply fold it about halfway and lay on its side on a paper towel to dry overnight.

The ONLY complaint I might make of it is that because there are no blades to interchange, you can only make ONE size of julienne cuts - but that size is perfect - just about McDonald's French fry size!

Oh, and you can also dice an onion - peel and cut off the top end (leave the root end intact) and run your knife down the onion every 1/4" to 1/2" - not all the way through, let the root end hold the onion together - then turn the onion perpendicular to the cuts you made and use the julienne setting - you will have a diced onion pronto! Haven't tried it on other veggies but I'm guessing you could do the same for potatoes for hash browns or whatever other veggie you want diced.

I'm very glad I bought this!
