Vitamin D35,000 IU, 60 capsules Item Catalog Number: 713 Vitamin D has long provided significant support for healthy bone density. Over the past year, however, scientists have validated the critical role that vitamin D plays in regulating cell division and differentiation. These new findings link a deficiency of vitamin D to a host of common age-related maladies. As a result of this new research and startling evidence of widespread vitamin D deficiency, prominent nutritional scientists are calling on Americans to increase their vitamin D intake to 1000 IU per day and higher. The current RDA, however, is only 400 IU. Vitamin D3 is synthesized in the body from sunlight. However, the winter season, weather conditions, and sunblocks inhibit the body’s ability to produce optimal levels of vitamin D. All of these factors point to the value of taking a daily supplement to ensure optimal vitamin D intake. For those who need to take very high doses of vitamin D3 and are under a physician’s supervision, Life Extension now makes available a 5000 IU vitamin D3 supplement. Customer Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: This is a very good product Comment: The warning on the label cautions the patient that high-dosage Vitamin D3 might cause all sorts of health problems. It advises monthly blood tests to check for serum 25(OH)D in the danger level. I am happy to report that for way more than 99% of the population, 5,000 IU will bring you into the optimal range. This warning is the manufacturer's way of limiting legal liability in case something goes wrong, but it basically is safe. 5,000 IU typically brings a blood level of 15 ng/mL up to around 40 ng/mL. You could go three times that high and it would still be safe according to research done by Dr. Reinhold Vieth at the University of Toronto. If everyone took 5,000 IU of D3 the world would be far healthier. Disclosure: I am not connected to this company except as a customer, I do not sell vitamins, and I am not a health professional. Customer Rating: Summary: Good product, excellent price Comment: I've been using this now for several months and have had no problems with illness. You do need to follow the directions and take it with food. Customer Rating: Summary: Made me sick Comment: I don't know if it's just the effects of D3 but this large dosage made me sick. You may want to lower the dosage to 1000MG if it happens to you.
