Comment: Sominex is actually the brand name form of the generic drug "Diphenhydramine", which happens to be an antihistamine which has as a major side-effect that of sleepiness. Diphenhydramine is the same ingredient in Benadryl.

The major side effect of diphenhydramine is sedation/drowsiness. It will definitely make you tired and sleepy. Sominex uses this side effect as an advantage, and markets this as a sleeping pill.
