Customer Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Dip belt Comment: I purchased the belt to add weight to pull-ups and dips. I have no complaints at all about the belt. If you are looking to add 75+lbs then this belt isn't for you. The chain is a bit short so an improvement would be a slightly longer chain. Customer Rating: Summary: Simple and comfortable Comment: First dip belt I've owned or used, and it worked right away for me with no attachment issues, discomfort, or worrying if it's going to fall off. I've gotten up to a single 35 pound weight and still no problems. Customer Rating: Summary: Great belt choice Comment: The polypropylene conforms well to your body's contours (as opposed to leather belts which tend to be quite stiff and usually take a while to be broken in). Overall, very good dipping belt. My only minor complaint is that it didn't come with instructions. I had never used one (had seen others using them) prior to the purchase. Had to look for general instructions on line, and while after finding them I realize that I should have easily figured out the proper way to use it, a short description of proper use would have been helpful. Customer Rating: Summary: Almost but not quite... Comment: As another reviewer observed, the chain on this belt is short. It's not obvious from the pictures or the reviews just how short it is.
The chain is too short to first load the belt, then put the belt on. Putting the belt on first and then loading lots of small plates is awkward. The plates are too small to rest on the ground (the short chain strikes again) so you kind of have to juggle them while you load them. Aggravating. Also, put a 25lb plate on and it might hit your groin.
There are U-shaped connectors that attach the chain to the belt on one side and the chain to a clip on the other side. The U-shaped connector is of such a size and shape that it and the clip get locked together at a weird angle and it takes a bit of wrestling to unfreeze them.
The quality of the rest of the belt is great though. If they would fix the chain length and the design of the U-shaped connectors, this belt could be a winner. As is, I would stay away unless you want to hack the chain yourself. Customer Rating: Summary: Works like a charm Comment: I bought this belt so that I can do weighted dips and pull-ups. It works amazingly well. And, given the material it's made of, it's easy to stow in a gym back and carry around. I've even taken it with me on travel!
Again - comfortable material, chain length is decent, and it really does the job.
Update (8/10/08): Doing dips with 115 lbs (two 45 plates, one 25 plate). I've never had another dip belt to compare the level of comfort/convenience, but this one is holding up pretty well! I load my plates on the floor, and squat up with my back straight as to avoid injury. Make sure you pull the belt downward closer to your hips than your waist when using heavy weights - otherwise it could become uncomfortable .
