Summary: Good product until I got Plasma burn in on it
Comment: I bought this model from Sams Club and was very happy with it until I noticed a sepia overtone in the center of the screen while in letterbox display. Turned out that the set was getting plasma burn in, but only in the 4x3 area. We do not have an HD tuner, so we only use the letterbox format for watching DVD's and on channels that broadcaset in letterbox format. The TV is used 95% of the time in 4x3 mode and the rest in letterbox mode.

I called Akai and was told that the "burnin" was normal and due to "abuse". They rejected the repair claim. The TV is not used for games and is not tuned to one unmoving channel all day long. It is used as the primary TV in the house. The reason I have not put a lower rating on the TV is that I am told this is normal for Plasma TV's. My advice is to never use a Plasma in 4x3 mode, so you get uniform burnin. Consider LCD TV's if a slight color change over time is important to you.

I saw that many newer TV's have an anti ghosting feature that splashes a white wash over the TV to prevent this. One forum suggested playing a white screen on the TV for 24 hours to remove the burnin. This may remove the burnin, or just uniformly burn in the whole screen, not sure which, but either would be an improvement.
