This unit generates lots of visible fine mist, mixed with actual steam. I suspect this is what prompted some users to comment on how much steam this unit generates. I admit the possibility that this may be the optimal approach to some medical applications, but I think for chronic sinus problems what you need is the actual steam. Vicks produces more steam, which is invisible, and no mist. This unit's design is convoluted and in some aspects just plain bizarre (in-line power switch for example). Adding water, regulating mist size - all these functions are inconveniently designed and awkward to accomplish.
So it gets the job done, but in the hindsight I wish I got another Vicks. Customer Rating: Summary: It works great , but not for me Comment: When I bought this unit , I thought it was different . One of the revies I read said they used some oils in the unit . I am using 3 oils but it is only 3 drops of each . The unit does not suck up the oils because there is only a few drops . It works like the old fly sprayers . What I did was remove the sprayer and a filter of some sort . I drop the oils in the heating chamber to make it work . The manual says nothing in the heater except water . This would work great if you needed maybe 1 oz. of whatever Customer Rating: Summary: Great for steam! However Caution!! Comment: This is a great product for steam! Produces lots of steam which you can control, either fine mist or larger "mist". I would highly recommend this product for any sinus issues. HOWEVER CAUTION! Do not put any essential oils in the aromatherapy cup. The oils will bond to the plastic's inside this unit and they become a gooey mess! This is not mentioned in the booklet! I called customer service the person I spoke with was clueless.. then I asked about replacement parts for this product..guess what? they don't have any replacement parts to offer! SO if you break or loose a part, you would have to buy a new one!
