Summary: Delightful book
Comment: From Harlem nightclubs to the shoppers of Macy's, architecture to human nature, this book is replete with full-page photographs that together compose a portrait of New York at the time. It's amazing to simultaneously see how different it is today, yet how similar. The book is short on descriptions but each caption is insightful and more than a mere description of the subject of the photo. One amusing one shows Central Park where "expensively tailored women walk expensively tailored dogs." My favorite photographs in this book are those of ethnic neighborhoods, from Greek to Syrian to Jewish and so forth.
