Editorial Review:
An excellent device for massaging the spinal column. This is the descendent of the original Ma Roller which was developed over 30 years ago. The new rubber rings stabilize the rolling action making it easier to control your movements. By giving a gentle stretch to the spine and a deep massage to the antigravity muscles in the back, the Maxi-Backsie stimulates three fundamental lines of energy known to every ancient culture around the world. These three lines represent the very core of the man - both conscious and unconscious functions. Great Acupressure Point Massage Tool Keeps Your Back, Neck, and Shoulders - Toned & Aligned Improves circulation for spinal column, back, neck, and shoulders Reach at the same time on the Erector Muscles at either side of the Spine Made of Kiln-dried Plantation Crown Mahogany This device has been recommended by knowledgeable doctors and chiropractors for many years now.

Summary: Thankful for the Reviews that Helped Me Decide to Buy This
Comment: I'm really glad I bought this roller. For such a simple tool, it is really versatile. I have a specific spot in my back that pops out of place when I am sitting for any length of time. I've always used a pillow for support (and tried many kinds), but this roller lets me support that exact spot that pops out. I often use it in place of a support pillow. Surprisingly, it isn't uncomfortable to use it this way and the roller works with most chairs.

I also use the Maxi Backsie Roller to gradually release my back as it is intended to be used. Sometimes this works great, other times if I am too stiff, it hurts too much. Overall, I love it.

Summary: Best by far
Comment: I have chronic migraines and tension in my back and shoulders triggers a lot of tension/standard migraines for me. I have about 7 different back tools and enjoy most, but this is my go-to tool. If I have a full blown migraine as soon as the meds kick in enough to let me move, I go to the floor and use this; if I feel myself tensing up a lot, I use it to prevent getting worse or the knot locking in.

This isn't meant to actually be rolled on, but used while still on one spot, then moved to the next location. I start at the base of my skull then work down, pretty much vertebrae at a time. I have seen either to do either 10 or 30 deep breathes per spot before moving on to make yourself/ your body relax around it. The only slight issue is that this takes time to get your whole back where some other items do the whole at once. IT'S WORTH IT THOUGH!! The first moment you lay down on it, you may levitate (I often do), because it goes so deep, but try and stick with it, easing if you have to. I will move my arms to different positions sometimes as I relax to hit knots differently or loosen them a little faster. You may be tender the next day, if you are sensitive, but I prefer tender and mobile to knotted/stiff/drugged up etc.

This does focus right at the edges of the spine, but you will be surprised by how much it helps other areas too when you can get these points to relax all down the back. ONE TIP: if you have a specific spot that hurts, still do the whole back if you have time (maybe start there though) because of how all the muscles connect and overlap I have been surprised what hitting say my lower back does to eventually help my shoulders-weird. If it doesn't hurt on one spot, still lay there for a little while and you will usually still relax more. MY BACK ACTUALLY CRAVES THIS THING. If you need good therapy for your back try it, even if you have others. Good Luck!

Summary: I worked better than everyting else I tried for my problem
Comment: How well a back treatment will work for me depends on my specific problem
Some things work for some people but nothing works for everyone.
Finding what works best for you might take a few tries to get it right.

I had a few problems. Knotty muscles in the shoulder blade area. No matter how many massages I had or how much yoga I did it never went away for long. But both helped. Walking helped quite a bit too.

I had a second problem of extreme tightness in my lower spine between my hip and spine. Those soft tissue knots could not be loosened much by massage, yoga or exercise.

My problems were soft tissue (self diagnosis).

I had some relief with the Lumbar Extender. While it helped it did not loosen the knots much and it was not a cure. It just helped symptoms - but it provided a valuable hint as to my problem with the lower back.

I wanted something that could penetrate deep enough into my muscles to release the trigger points that will in constant contraction. Rolling on a rubber ball got closer top what I needed.

By chance I tried the Maxi Backsie Roller and it was a miracle for me. It actually was a little uncomfortable the first few days (my muscles were so knotted) but I knew on the first roll down my spine I was on the right track. It loosened the tightness in my shoulder area. No more crunchy muscles in that area. Over about 5 days - all tightness was gone. It hit every trigger point a loosened them. While it felt uncomfortable and I had some soreness at first from the trigger points letting go of years of contraction - It also felt very very good in a way I cant actually describe. Not quite a tingle but not far from it. I slept much better after using the roller. I was not just treating the symptom I was having real improvement in health.

My lower back required rolling specific areas for longer periods of time. The roller was hitting very tight mussels that had to be worked with the roller to loosen over a few days. But again as with the upper back I was having substantial improvement and it is not temporary improvement it's real. It's not just the roller alone. I continue to do exercises and yoga for about 20 - 30 min in the morning. The difference is the roller is making the yoga and exercise really work. At some point I expect the roller will become maintenance and exercise and yoga will continue to be part of my fitness.

The roller was such a success and so cheap that I decided to try the Spine-worx. This did not work for me but it clued me in to my true back problem. The Spine works (in my opinion) is primarily a lateral spine alignment tool. If your problem is your spine is curving to the left or right I think you might want to give it a try. My spine is straight and the Spine-Works provided not benefit for my condition. But after trying it I realized why the roller worked for me. I believe I had a problem with the S curve of my back. I believe my posture was contributing to my upper back tightness and the tight muscles on one side of the back were effecting my thoracic (mid back) and lumbar (lower back) areas. When I used the roller and then tried the Lumbar Extender - there was no benefit from the Lumbar extender because the curve had been correctly restored. The Lumbar extender could only help but the Maxi Backsie actually corrected.

All this requires maintenance. If you're the type that wants to take a pill and plop down on the couch - or are searching for a quick fix that requires no effort - keep looking this is not for you. If you have done your homework and have a soft tissue problem that needs some loosening - I recommend the Maxi Backsie over the others mentioned. Start slow and work into it with exercises too and hopefully you will have the same good results. Its worth the $18 the Backsie costs to try it. I found the mini backside helpful addition to the Maxi. But given a choice - put your money on the Maxi.

I have no experience with other non soft tissue related back problems.

Summary: I feel great!
Comment: So I had been having problems with neck and shoulder pain for awhile now. Before deciding to take my chances with a chiropractor, I figured I would try a ma roller first.

It is great! It will delve right into the muscles and purge your body of knots! Came in a plastic bag, made of three different pieces of wood which gives it a cool design.

A really great tool, not too sure about trying it on other parts of the body.

Summary: Product Quality High, Didn't Work for Me
Comment: This tool is nicely finished and of a quality wood, but I found it ineffective for working my trigger points in the back. It is very hard and causes more pain than I am prepared to accept.
