Muelhens created 4711 in 1792. It is the result of the following top fragrance Notes: bergamot, lemon and orange. The middle notes are: rosemary and rose and the base of the fragrance is: musk, petitgrain and neroli. 4711 is recommended for casual and sport use.

Customer Rating: Summary: Not a perfume Comment: My sister wears this so I thought I'd give it a try too. Because it's called a cologne I thought the smell would last. This is basically an after-shower spray. Infact, my Mother, who is German told me thats exactly what it is. My Grandmother wore this so it is very old and popular in Germany. It IS very refreshing to put on after a shower but don't expect the smell to last long. Lovely scent. Customer Rating: Summary: Just as I remember!! Comment: My grandmother used to wear this perfume all the time when I was little and I just loved the lemony scent. Now that I have it as an adult, it's even better and more complex than I ever knew. There are very strong citrus notes, but there is also a touch of sandalwood and many other soft fragrances that all meld together into a light, pleasing scent. I only wish the scent lasted longer on!!

When I was a girl, my first little bottle was a prized posession bought by my mother who stood in line for hours to get some German imports (in Riga, Latvia, 1970's). It's still a staple fragrance for me and hasn't lost its' charm.
No wonder, it's been winning raves since 1720's. It's not too sickly or synthetic and really makes me get up and go. (yes, I do let my husband steal it.) It is rather hard to find it, but I recommend you to use it.
