Customer Rating: Summary: Good charger Comment: This charger is fast and it does charge all batteries i have, including Sony, Panasonic and Duracell. It may have problem charging some old Nimb batteries where it red leds flashes but you can manually discharge those batteries until the empty (use them in any high drain devices) and try again. 3/4 worked for me. Customer Rating: Summary: Horrible Product Comment: Soon after using this product (Previously I had been using an energizer travel charger) it started with a blinking red light when I inserted batteries. I thought it simply wasn't charging my batteries, but they won't charge in my travel charger now either. Little did I know it was destroying the energizer brand batteries I was putting into it. I looked this up online after it happened and found that many other people have experienced this problem. So now I'm left with a charger that destroyed batteries and 12 or 16 useless energizer rechargeable batteries that are only a few months old - what a waste. I would definitely think twice about purchasing this product or at least look around a bit more. Customer Rating: Summary: Initial Impressions are Very Good Comment: After an unimpressive experience with NiMH about 4 years ago and throwing away numerous non-rechargeable Lithium primary batteries from my shoe-mount camera flashes since then, I decided it was worth giving NiMH cells another shot.
So far, things are much improved. Energizer has excellent rechargeable batteries by reputation, and initial impressions of this charger are favorable.
What I like:
- 4 independent charging circuits. This means it charges each battery individually, rather than treating each pair as though it were a single battery. Since batteries in series are limited by the weakest battery, this is important because it ensures that each individual battery is topped-off.
- 25 mA pulse maintenance charge after initial charging period (100 mA spread among the 4 circuits is 25 mA per battery). This means I can leave batteries in the charger indefinitely without worry because this is a slow enough charge rate for any quality NiMH AA battery to tolerate.
- Even in fast charge (1,875 mA), the batteries stay cool due to the fan. In fact, even when charging at 1,875 mA in this charger, batteries are cooler than in my old 700 mA charger.
- Detects reverse polarity and primary batteries. If I get stupid and accidentally put a non-rechargeable battery in this, or if I put a battery in backwards, the charger will refuse to charge it instead of blowing it up. That's nice.
- Detects battery voltage and temperature to intelligently shut itself off. Some of the more inexpensive chargers are simply timer-based, which can leave you with batteries that are overcharged and damaged, or that are undercharged.
What I dislike:
- Power adapter is huge. This is not a convenient travel charger. On the other hand, the power adapter does stay cool, which is a positive thing. And it does draw 85 watts during fast-charge mode, so a smaller adapter probably isn't an option.
- It is LOUD during fast-charge. Definitely not something to plug in right before going to bed at night. This is the price to pay for keeping the batteries cool. Thankfully, the fan shuts off in trickle-charge mode. Customer Rating: Summary: 15 minutes is what I need! Comment: I love this charger. I have my batteries ready in 15 minutes, and safe to be handled without burning thanks to the internal fan. It was a great buy!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fast or what? Comment: Well I bought it on impulse.. price was really good. I have 3 chargers already but nothing like this.. 15 mins - it really is that fast.. I am really impressed.. other chargers are finding new homes - I use batteries that fast & this new one really does keep em charged fast & I can also keep em goin in the car too. excellent.. will charge up any of my previously purchased batteries (NiMH).
