Summary: accurate, not too hard to use
Comment: It's a bit fussy about the position of your arm, but it works quite well. I took it with me to my doctor's office this morning to compare readings, and his BP cuff and this were in good-enough agreement for me to trust.

Summary: I Like It, But The Diastolic Is Always Low
Comment: I bought this because of the reviews, but discovered something that I haven't seen in any of them. Shortly after I got it, I took it to by Dr's office to compare it. I had suspected that the diastolic was running low as I always got between 52 and 58. In the Dr's office, my diastolic was 70. I replaced an Omron wrist monitor becasue I knew it was running high on the systolic, however it is accurate for the diastolic.

They checked how I was taking my BP and said I was doing it right. I read and reread the instructions and called customer service. They told me to try a large cuff which gave the same reading. I wasted $18 for nothing.

MY BIGGEST CONCERN ABOUT THE DIASTOLIC BEING LOW IS THAT OFTEN THE DIASTOLIC IS WHAT THE DR'S WORRY ABOUT MOST. A difference of around 20 points makes a huge difference on the diastolic. If you get 79 and its really 99, you won't really know that you are running high.

What I do is use my Omron wrist monitor to get the diastolic and the Omron 711AC for the systolic. A bit of a nusiance, but it seemed like less of a hassle than sending it in.

Summary: Don't recommend this BP monitor even though Consumr Rpt says it's top rated!
Comment: Consumer's Reports just rated this a top buy (ranked #4) in automatic BP sensors. I was excited. Came quickly via Amazon, but the readings seemed quite high, over and over. I compared it to my neighbor's model, which commonly read about 8-11 points lower for each of us --- over and over. I then took it to my doctor's office and compared it there. Again, it came up about 10-12 points above their readings. I sent it back. I do not recommend this model at all (HEM 711-AC). Not sure what to recommend, but not this model. thx.

Summary: Almost excellent
Comment: The HEM-711AC is accurate as confirmed against doctor's measurements, it has memory enough to retain a good history and can be powered by battery &/or A/C. However, the time & date function fails if the batteries are not installed and working.

The "fuzzy logic" thing that helps the machine know how to pressure up and depressure accurately and consistently is a great addition to BP measuring. I was never very trusting of measurement taken by a series of different professionals who were in a hurry or overpressured the cuff.

The only feature I wish had been included is the averaging of all measurements in memory. With this model the only readings that are included in the averaging feature are the very recent ones. Useful if you want to know what your average BP has been this morning but no good if you are interested in seeing a trend for the week. Given the state of consumer electronics where cell phones can cook breakfast, I'm sure a pretty nice suite of memory, averaging and graphing features could be worked out cheaply.

That said, for about $50 the unit does what it advertised and does it very well.
