Customer Rating: Summary: Removes wrinkles but you will not get the ironed look Comment: This J-4000 steamer does remove the wrinkles but you will never end up with the same look as ironed clothes. Its such a big hassle to hang the clothes and then steam, it sure does take getting used to. Also you will want to take the wait time into consideration to steam your clothes, you need to fill up the tank with water, pre-heat and only then will you get the steam after a few minutes. I believe it is not worth the effort for what you get! You will always need your iron even though you have this. Customer Rating: Summary: be cautioned on which hose length model you get! Comment: I'm looking into getting a steamer and have been eyeing this J-4000I model, and I've seen it with a 5.5' hose and 7.5' hose (for draperies). I haven't purchased either yet, but I thought I'd let everyone know that depending on what you're really buying this steamer for (garments or drapery...or like me, BOTH) the "7.5' Drapery Hose is not for garments which use 5.5' Hoses. The longer drapery hose is not as efficient in steam production required for taking wrinkles out of garments." So... that said, I hope it helps you make the right decision as to which hose length to get. I think I'll probably get the 5.5' hose length model because I'm shooting for whatever steaming process is most powerful/effective. Though I have 96" draperies at home, I'd rather have more steaming power than hose length. Hope this helps!
Customer Rating: Summary: After 1 year... Comment: I've had this steamer for over a year now, and frankly,I don't know how I did without it. It is true that it does not totally replace the iron, but my iron only comes out the closet about twice a month now.
It works just as good as the day I received it. As far as sediment build up (I live in Arizona, very hard water) I just put a cap full of vinegar in the tank every so often and it works great keeping everything clear.
Instead of spending money on a steam board, I just stand my ironing board up against the wall. It works great! One of the things I really like besides wrinkle removal is the way it freshens and removes any lingering odors such as smoke or colonge. It's definitly paid for itself already. Would buy this steamer again in a minute if I had to. Customer Rating: Summary: DO NOT buy if you like the ironed look Comment: So I dress up (slacks, shirt & tie) for work everyday. It typically took about an hour to iron my week's worth of clothes. I wasn't about to go and spend $50/month on dry cleaning, so I was looking for a simple solution instead of ironing. Reading the reviews of the Jiffy garment steamer, I thought it was worth a shot (given the reviews) to cut down time w/ the same result. Needless to say, I'm down $250 (the site I bought it from won't take returns - stupid me, should have bought it from amazon).
For those that iron their clothes, and expect a crisp (non-starched), no-wrinkle look - DO NOT GET THIS! I will repeat myself just to help others avoid my same mistake - DO NOT BUY THIS if you are looking for that ironed look! Also, if you include the warm up time, you don't cut down much time.
I'll leave this in closing... If you're looking for a replacement to ironing, this isn't it. I know you've read all the other positive reviews and are like I should just ignore these one or two negative review (I did the same thing), but don't do it! You'll definitely regret it... (save your money for a good iron). Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent but you need the steam board Comment: I bought this since i was tired of ironing my husband's shirts. I did not attempt to iron pants since it never came out well.
Now things are different with the Jiffy 400M steamer. I can even leave a crease by touching the metal steam head on the clothes. But my husband says that it does not have the same feel as the ironed and starched shirts. I have tried to spray some starch on it before I spray, it is difficult since it is hanging free. I am ordering the jiffy steam board from [...] since I hope to improve on the shirts. I now do the pants with the steamer and the pants look like they have been drycleaned. I helps if it is once dry cleaned and I keep it up with the Jiffy.
