Customer Rating: Summary: Hurricane Tina.... Comment: This is a very good documentary about a wonderful lady, who I consider to be one of the top ten most phenomenal entertainers of all time. It traces little Anna Mae Bullock's life from her beginnings as a cotton picking, poverty stricken, abandoned little nobody from the deep south, through her metamorphosis to superstar. There is rare footage of her early years and performances, when all she had was her God-given talent. I remember seeing Tina with The Ike And Tina Turner Review as a teenager, and seeing her perform was something not to be believed. I used to literally shake with excitement at seeing her, as did many....she was like a whirling cyclone. She needed no special effects, the power of her performance and talent was overwhelming. That VOICE, those movements, she seemed to glide across the stage as if possessed, unbelievably sexy, but never vulgar. This video has some good examples of those performances. There are also interviews, circa early 1990's, with Tina herself, as well as her admirers Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Cher...Also, the infamous ex-husband Ike. Before her comeback in the 1980's, I vividly recall commenting to friends, when discussing performers who we considered to be the greatest of all time, that I estimated her as one of the greatest. "Tina Turner??!" was their incredulous response. She was that forgotten at that point, and I honestly couldn't understand why. This video also covers that comeback period, where she walked away from her very abusive marriage with nothing but her name and talent (which she never lost) , reinvented herself, and became an even bigger star than she had previously been. That the little girl who came into the world lacking beauty, wealth, family, education, and all the things that could be considered advantages, became a huge star is an affirmation as to the power of the human spirit. Tina is now someone resembling a very refined English gentlewoman, and spends most of her time in reclusion. That's okay, she's earned it. I was very pleased with this documantary about the woman that Janis Joplin called "the greatest." Many others feel the same way, and many others have also tried to emulate Miss Tina, all to no avail, they pale in comparison. Todays artists rely on computerized effects to create the excitement that Tina Turner did with nothing but her talent and energy. Luckily, some of those incredible performances she created are preserved, and this film is a nice addition to the story of her phenomenon....the success story of all success stories. The reverberations of her singular life force will continue into eternity...Rock on Girl!! Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Story of How Anna Mae Became Tina Comment: This is a very in-depth "documentary" that tells about Tina's life and how it all began, from Nutbush, Tennessee to stardom. Not only is Tina interviewed throughout, but other stars give their account of Tina as well. It is more like a documentary and a concert in one. There is video footage of Tina performing from when she first started singing with Ike Turner up to 1992. It was great seeing Tina performing at such a young age and how she continued to evolve into a more beautiful and talented person throughout the years. Ike Turner is also interviewed from a rehabilitation center, and his interview was very interesting. After viewing the tape, I realized that there is not as much strife between the two like I thought there would be. Ike apologized for his actions, and Tina has moved on with her life. If you enjoyed watching the movie "What's Love Got To Do With It", you will definitely love this tape! Customer Rating: Summary: Tina gives a very upfront side of herself in an interview. Comment: This one great interview.Tina looks beautiful as she gives you insight about herself. Others are also interviewed about Tina. This shows Tina from 1939-1991. This is not just a documentary though, it is rockumentary. It is great! Buy it now!!!!!!
