Customer Rating: Summary: eh... Comment: The book is OK, not sure what I was expecting, maybe something more forceful on "don't suck your thumb" - this story is a bit odd. Not sure my 4 year old really got the point of the book, even after I explained it to her. Customer Rating: Summary: Little Thumb Comment: Great book for parents who would like to encourage their child to stop sucking their thumb. Customer Rating: Summary: Little Thumb Comment: A gentle way to help prepare a child to "put away" their beloved thumb. My 5 year old daughter understood the message in the book and still liked reading it over and over at bedtime. Customer Rating: Summary: not at all convincing Comment: When I read this book to my 3-year-old, I think it increases his urge to suck his thumb. The book tells the story from the thumb's perspective (the thumb doesn't want to go into a cold, dark mouth), but I guess my child doesn't care about what his thumb thinks. The book spends a lot of time talking about all the great things you can do with both hands (tie your shoes, catch a ball, etc), but this problem is easily solved by taking your thumb out for a minute and then putting it back in. I chose this book because the cover illustration looked like a boy, but the character is actually a girl. My son's dentist suggested reading books about thumb sucking as a first step to try to break the habit. I don't know how to get my son to stop sucking his thumb, but this book didn't have any effect. Customer Rating: Summary: Little Thumb Ventures Beyond the Usual Comment: Little Thumb is a delightfully humorous story told partly from the thumb's perspective that includes a positive, playful plot and imaginative suggestions for engaging one's thumb. Having taught preschool for 20 years, I was glad to see Ms. Dionne address this sensitive, timeless topic so creatively. And the illustrations are charming and colorful. This story guides teachers and parents as well as young children.
