Caroline Myss, author of the New York Times bestsellers Anatomy of the Spirit and Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can, presents an exciting, highly original program in this long-awaited book. Based on her internationally popular workshop of the same name, Sacred Contracts is a brilliant synthesis of psychology, healing guidance, and spiritual insight.
As a medical intuitive, Myss has found that people often don’t understand their purpose in life, which has led to a spiritual malaise of epidemic proportions. This metaphysical disease in turn leads to depression, anxiety, fatigue, and eventually physical illness.
But our purpose—our individual Sacred Contract—is often difficult to apprehend. For this reason, Myss developed an enjoyable and ingenious process for deciphering your own Contract using a new theory of archetypes that builds on the works of Jung, Plato, and contemporary thinkers. She first recounts how the concept of Sacred Contracts took form in myths and other cultural traditions through the ages. She then examines the lives of the spiritual masters and prophets—Abraham, Jesus, the Buddha, and Muhammad—whose archetypal journeys illustrate the four stages of a Sacred Contract and provide clues for discovering your own.
With her signature motivational style and stories, Myss explains how you can identify your particular spiritual energies, or archetypes—the gatekeepers of your higher purpose—and use them to help you find out what you are here on earth to learn and whom you are meant to meet. In coming to know your archetypal companions, you also begin to see how to live your life in ways that make the best use of your personal power and lead you to fulfill your greatest—in fact, your divine—potential.
In this process, you learn how to see your life—and the lives of others—symbolically, allowing you to manage your personal power without getting caught up in emotional drama. You will also learn how to fulfill your Sacred Contract: what you and only you are here on earth to do. Finally, Myss offers specific guidance for locating your physical and emotional vulnerabilities and healing any susceptible areas.
Both visionary and practical, Sacred Contracts is a completely unique process of self-discovery and spiritual archaeology and a bold, powerful work of spiritual wisdom.

Customer Rating: Summary: Do you like divinity parlor games? Then this book's for you. Comment: I would like to preface by saying that I am a fan of Myss. She shares a lot of valuable insight, but with the title of this boo, she missed the mark. If you want to know about archetypes, read Jung, not Myss. How to figure out your contract is entirely based on a parlor game, which in fact reminded me of that folded paper game as a child, "pick a number, now count and open to discover...".
If you are not an introspective person by nature you are going to have a heck of a time determining just what your archetypes might be. On my first count I had 20+ I could relate to, but after a lot of introspection and a night of observing my dreams I was able to whittle it down to the 8 that she wants you to have (plus the well all have) to fit into her 12 spoke wheel, which somehow corresponds with the astrological wheel (huh?!?). The next step is to write your archetypes and the numbers 1-12 on scraps of paper and then go into a prayer and meditation. You then draw an archetype and a number and write it on your wheel.
Of course the order in which you draw number to archetype is supposed to be divine. Naturally they make sense because YOU choose the archetypes - not all of which are pleasant but can teach us something.
I think that calling this a "sacred contract" is a bit misleading. It is more of a fun psychological parlor game useful in understanding how you view yourself in relation to archetypes (symbolically). There is no spiritual basis here whatsoever and certainly no sacred contract. It could be read as another personality typing system.
I do enjoy what she has to say about the chakra system, but failed to see how it related at all to this book.
The only contract God wants us to obey is to love one another and be of service to one another. It is as simple as that. The more I come to know GOD the more I realize that "I" am already the problem, and delving into the depths of my archetypal patterns (ie; ego), while shedding light on this self I call me, does not help get ME out of the way to allow GOD in. Customer Rating: Summary: Amazingly quick response time! Comment: The seller sent this order right out and was amazed at how quickly I received this book. It arrived in excellent condition. Will use this seller again! Customer Rating: Summary: A decent book to have in your library. Comment: This is a good book to have in your library if you currently don't have an archetype book. I can't say that I learned a lot, but I do think that it is a good reference to have available. This doesn't compare to Anatomy of the Spirit which I consider to be a classic. This isn't a book that you sit down and read right through although Caroline Myss does make an attempt to make the book more than a reference. I do like the way she give individual stories in the book to make it more personal and interesting. Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing material Comment: This is the first audio I've heard from Caroline Myss. Her style is direct and no-nonsense and the content is enlightening. If you are looking for another tool through which to learn more about yourself, this cd set is a perfect introduction to contracts and archetypes. Customer Rating: Summary: Classic Wonder Comment: The material in this book is awesome - so much is offered for the reader to become well acquainted with archetypes and to chart one's own wheel.
