Editorial Review:
It was supposed to be blue skies and smooth sailing for Thomas and Jackie Hawks. A retired probation officer and a stay-at-home mom, they were looking forward to entering the next phase of their golden years. Their plan: To sell their home—a 55-foot, $435,000 yacht—and start a new life on land…and spend as much time with their grandchildren as possible.
The Hawks were thrilled when a young man named Skylar Deleon wanted to buy the boat for himself, his wife, and their two kids. Little did Thomas and Jackie know that this unemployed, former childhood actor and dishonorably discharged Marine had another devious plan in mind: To lure the couple out to sea, force them to sign away their life savings, throw them overboard, and leave them

Customer Rating: Summary: A Good Read Comment: This is such a sad story. My heart goes out to the Hawks family members. Jackie and Tom Hawks, from all accounts based on this book and other research I have done, were both kind and caring people. They were an honest and trusting couple as well. Regrettably, all of these attributes that we look for in people would eventually result their deaths at the hands of a deadbeat lowlife manipulator and his accomplices. I try not to think about Jackie and Tom's last moments but it is hard to forget.
It took 4 years after the murder but finally the perpetrator and his accomplices, which included his wife, have been found guilty. One will go on trial in January 2009. Let's pray this one too will be found guilty of this heinous crime.
I would highly recommend this book. I couldn't put it down. You can find more information on the family at www.tomandjackiehawks.com, the official website for the family. Customer Rating: Summary: Truly Sad Tale Comment: There are some books that need to be written by Ann Rule. This is one of them. Not that I don't think the author did a good job, but this story is one that needed to be told in great detail. Jackie and Tom Hawks are amazing people. They raised two decent young men, had lots of friends, and a zest for life. Unfortunately, they meet up with 5 waste of lives, and so the sad tale begins. Putting the book out before the trial was unfair to the reader. Customer Rating: Summary: The conclusion. Comment: The culprit in this book, the murderer, the life destroyer, was found guilty of the murder of Tom and Jackie Hawks.
May that bring a little bit of peace to the family. Customer Rating: Summary: A great book! Comment: Another great story relating to true crime...but be warned...once reading it you might never travel on a boat again!!! Customer Rating: Summary: Awful story... Comment: This story was particularly awful in how these people were killed. All for money and their boat. The killers were too lazy to go out and get real jobs so they killed this couple instead. They deserve whatever they're getting in prison.
