Post subject: BlogsPlus Next Release

Observing Blogs on mine, and especially on the arrse site, the user profile block really slows it down - the initial query is very slow. I don't really see the value in having that block present, so I'll add an option to disable it.

This version will also add a genuine user id column to the tables to eliminate this nonsense of having to match the username against the users table to obtain the user id.

With the subsequent changes to utilize a genuine id, this will affect some blogs where the blog username (aid) does not match the users username. I guess I could add a special link to generate a listing of such usernames so that people can correct them?

Was easier than I thought - that's a worry Laughing
Pre-release here
This does modify the database tables for blogs and comments and generates the uid in each case by looking up the users table. Also adds the option to turn off the profile members block. There is also a link in the config section to find missing user IDs after the install.

Back-up tables and files.

Cheers - I've also noticed that blogs is slow and so this will be great. Unfortunately I won't be able to test it until the weekend but will get back to you with my thoughts.

Without the YA members block, blogs comes up instantaneously, as it should Smile

In your case, I really think that members block is a waste of space and server time.

You might want to download that pre-release again - it now has provision for a "preview" limit on the blogs text display on the main index page (everything or 200, 500, 1000, 1500 character limits) - if the limit is exceeded, it provides a "Read More" link.

I've also fixed the "View/Add Comments" link so that it actually goes straight to comments.

Now installed and running on ARRSE.

I agree with you wrt the Your account block and the option to get rid of it is great. Preview/Read More functionality is very good although I'm not sure about the link straight to comments ..... see this link at the bottom.

Laughing bit slow on the uptake this morning - I looked and thought, yeah, so?

Then I looked again later and realized what you meant - needs an extra check when comments=show is used to remove that "no comments yet" line. I shall repair Smile
